What is a detox diet?

The general idea of detox diets suggests that most food contains contaminants: ingredients deemed unnecessary for human life, such as flavor enhancers, food colorings, pesticides, and preservatives. Detox diets claim to remove those harmful compounds from our body by strictly limiting the types and amounts of food we eat. Some detox diet plans even involve a period of fasting, followed by colon cleanses or enemas.
