Onions have been proved to inhibit the growth of potentially harmful bacteria like Escherichia coli(E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) and Bacillus cereus. Quercetin extracted from onions is powerful in damaging the cell walls and membranes of E. coli and S. aureus.
