What is a kidney stone?

Kidney stones tend to form when a person's urine output decreases significantly. As the urine output decreases, various minerals will gradually accumulate in the kidneys.

A range of factors can cause kidney stones, including the following dietary factors:

  • high oxalate intake from certain foods
  • a high protein diet
  • too much sodium
  • dehydration or low fluid intake
