The bottom line

Just because a group of people see certain practices as "weird" doesn't mean these practices are "inferior" or "uncivilized". Our value system is largely shaped by culture, experiences, and habits. Beyond the disgust factor of some insect species, they have the prospect of becoming a safer and more sustainable protein source for humans. Because their genes are so different from humans, insect consumption minimizes the chance of a disease or virus transmitted to us. They also produce less greenhouse gas and use fewer resources than farmed animals.

On the other hand, we need to understand the objective truth: we share the planet Earth with many, many other species. We have been trying hard to keep insects out of our food, but we just can't completely. As put by Scientific American, consider how often you are hospitalized with "chitin-related injuries". Embrace the truth: our future could depend on insect consumption.
