Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. of Modesto, Calif., has recalled Aged Cotija Mexican Grating Cheese (8 oz) because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, pregnant people and others with weakened immune systems. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and not to eat it.
The recall applies to Aged Cotija Mexican Grating Cheese (8 oz), lot code(s) 4DW-23318, UPC 72724200043, labeled with “SELL BY 05/12/24 BATCH 4DW-23318.” The cheese has been distributed nationwide through distributors and sold online and at select U.S. retailers; the product has been sold since May 12, 2024. The product is packaged as an 8 oz puck wrapped in clear plastic with red and black lettering and an orange top reading “Cotija Aged Mexican Grating Cheese.”
Consumers who have purchased this product should quarantine it and either dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.
