Recall Details
Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — SeaBear Smokehouse of Anacortes, Wash., has recalled two ready-to-eat chowder products—Smoked Salmon Chowder and Alehouse Clam Chowder—because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life‑threatening botulism. Consumers are warned to stop using the products immediately and not to eat them, even if they appear or smell normal; anyone with symptoms such as weakness, double vision, difficulty speaking or breathing should seek immediate medical attention.
The recalled items are 12 oz dark-blue pouches sold under the SeaBear Smokehouse brand; impacted lot code(s) for Smoked Salmon Chowder include 64242902, 64242912, 64242972, 64242982, 64243042, 64243052, 64243121, 64243131, 64243191, 64243201, 64243651, 64250031, 64250291 and 64250301, and for Alehouse Clam Chowder include 64241641, 64241643, 64241661, 64243251, 64243261, 64250222 and 64250241. No illnesses have been reported to date; SeaBear initiated a voluntary recall after a customer complaint led to identification of a pouch‑seal mechanical failure that can cause leaks. Consumers should dispose of or return the product and may request a full refund or replacement by contacting SeaBear customer service at 1‑800‑645‑3474 or [email protected] (customer service hours Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. PST). For additional information, consumers should check SeaBear’s website or contact their retailer, and consult a physician for any concerning symptoms.
