Recall Details
Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — WanaBana USA has issued a voluntary recall of all WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée pouches after laboratory testing identified elevated levels of lead in certain units, posing a potential toxicity risk, particularly to young children. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and not to feed it to infants or toddlers; anyone who believes a child may have been exposed should contact their health care provider about blood lead testing. The company says it is cooperating with federal and state health agencies in the ongoing investigation.
The recall covers WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée 3‑pack pouches (2.5 oz) — all lot code(s) — and includes private‑label products sold under Schnucks Apple Sauce 90g pouches with cinnamon (affected lot code(s): 05023:19, 09023:22, 09023:24) and Weis Cinnamon Apple Sauce 90g (affected lot code(s): 05023:28). These products have been sold online and at select U.S. retailers, including Dollar Tree and Amazon, and have been sold since Sept. 15, 2025. Investigations by North Carolina authorities detected elevated lead concentrations in sampled pouches; four illnesses have been reported to date in connection with WanaBana products.
Consumers with affected products should dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund and may request replacement or refund through the company’s customer service. Parents and caregivers concerned about possible exposure should seek medical advice and testing for children. For additional information or to report concerns, email the company at [email protected]; consumers should also consult FDA or state health agency updates for further guidance.
