Big Island Candies Issues Allergen Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in “Makana Brownie Assortment”

Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Big Island Candies of Hilo, Hawaii has recalled the 10 oz. Makana Brownie Assortment Box (batch 60) because the product may contain undeclared peanuts, posing a risk of a serious or life‑threatening allergic reaction to consumers with peanut allergies; consumers who have this product should stop using it immediately and not eat it. The company says a portion of the boxes may contain Milk Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Brownies instead of Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nut Brownies and that the label does not list peanut as an ingredient.

The affected product is identified as Makana Brownie Assortment Box, 10 oz., lot code(s) RFFIC 326760, and have been sold since Dec. 13, 2023; sales were limited to purchases made at Big Island Candies’ Ala Moana store at 1450 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, Hawaii, between Dec. 13, 2023 and Dec. 21, 2023. The recall was initiated after a consumer reported an adverse reaction; subsequent investigation indicates the packing and labeling stage caused the error and that the issue is confined to batch 60.

Consumers who purchased or received the Makana Brownie Assortment Box with lot code(s) RFFIC 326760 are urged to return the product to any Big Island Candies store for a full refund or replacement, or dispose of it if returning is not practicable.
