Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op has recalled multiple cheese products because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in vulnerable populations and can cause pregnancy loss. Consumers are advised to stop using and not eat the affected products immediately and to follow disposal or return instructions below.
The recall covers specific lot code(s) of Sunrise Creamery Dilly Pickle Monterey Jack Cheese (6 oz. and 1.25 lb. packages, lot code 253054) and Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op cheeses including Organic Gouda (8 oz.), Mozzarella/Provolone (5 lb. shredded), Colored Cheddar (5 lb. loaves and 5 lb. shredded), Swiss (5 lb. loaves), Pepper Jack (5 lb. loaves and 5 lb. shredded), and Monterey Jack (5 lb. loaves and 5 lb. shredded) with affected sell-by dates listed on package labels. The products were produced on May 30, 2025 and August 13, 2025 and have been sold since July 7, 2025 through Aug. 14, 2025 in Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Texas, online and at select U.S. retailers, distributors and dining halls.
Consumers who have these products should discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund; if unsure which item they have, check the lot code(s) and sell-by dates printed on the package.
