The Ambriola Company Issues Recall of Cheese Products Because of Listeria Health Risk

Raleigh, N.C., Dec. 3, 2025 — The Ambriola Company has recalled select grated Pecorino Romano cheese products after routine testing confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems and can cause miscarriage in pregnant women. Consumers are urged to stop using the listed products immediately and not eat them; customers with symptoms of Listeria infection should contact their healthcare provider.

The recall covers multiple retail and bulk grated Pecorino Romano products produced at Ambriola’s West Caldwell, N.J., facility and distributed online and at select U.S. retailers; the products have been sold since Nov. 3, 2025. Affected retail items include Locatelli Pecorino Romano Grated 4 oz. cup (lot code(s): expiration dates 05/03/26, 05/10/26, 05/17/26), Locatelli Grated Pecorino Romano 8 oz. cup (lot code(s): floor display shipper dated production 04/06/26, 04/11/26, 04/12/26, 04/15/26, 04/17/26; regular stock dated product 05/05/26, 05/06/26, 05/07/26, 05/10/26, 05/12/26, 05/14/26, 05/17/26), Boar’s Head Grated Pecorino Romano 6 oz. cup (lot code(s): 03/04/26, 03/12/26), and Members Mark 1.5 lb. bag (lot code(s): 03/25/26, 03/30/26, 04/05/26). Bulk and variable-weight products include Locatelli, Ambriola, Pinna and Boar’s Head grated Pecorino Romano with listed expiration lot code(s) in March and late February 2026. No other Ambriola, Locatelli, Members Mark, Pinna or Boar’s Head products are included in the recall.

Consumers who purchased affected products should not consume them and may dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund; if return options are unclear, check with the retailer where the product was bought.
