Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op is recalling multiple cheese products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious or fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems; pregnant women may suffer miscarriages or stillbirths. Consumers who have the listed products should stop using them immediately and either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

The recall covers 100% Grass‑Fed Pepper Jack Cheese (8 oz. packages, 5 lb. loaves and 40 lb. loaves) with lot code(s) 251661; Copia Collective 100% Grass‑Fed Pepper Jack Cheese (8 oz.) with lot code(s) 251661; Middlefield Original Horseradish Flavored Cheese (8 oz.) with lot code(s) 2524061; Middlefield Original Monterey Jack Cheese (8 oz. and 5 lb.) with lot code(s) 251672 and 40 lb. blocks date‑coded 7‑16‑25B; and Farmers Cheese 8 oz. and 5 lb. with lot code(s) 251672 and 40 lb. blocks date‑coded 7‑16‑25B. These products were produced on June 16, June 24 and July 16, 2025, and have been sold since July 14, 2025, online and at select U.S. retailers, with distribution in Ohio and shipments to manufacturers, distributors and retail stores; lot codes are printed on 8 oz. packets and 5 lb. loaves, and date codes are on 40 lb. loaves.
