Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Prime Food Processing LLC has voluntarily recalled Dried Herring Fish because the product was not adequately eviscerated, raising the risk of Clostridium botulinum contamination that can cause botulism; consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and not eat it. The company says uneviscerated fish can concentrate C. botulinum spores in the viscera, posing a serious food-safety hazard. No illnesses have been reported to date, and anyone with symptoms such as blurred vision, difficulty swallowing or breathing, dizziness, or muscle weakness should seek immediate medical attention.

The recalled product is Item #AF4110 – Dried Herring Fish, lot code(s): 26020, with an expiration date of 06.12.28, packaged in clear plastic 7 oz. (198 g) bags with blue trim. The issue was identified during routine testing by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets and traced to an imported product manufactured in Vietnam.

Consumers who purchased the specified product should immediately stop use and return the unused fish and original packaging to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of it following local waste guidelines; if unsure, consumers should check with their retailer for accepted disposal methods.
