Metro Produce Distributors Inc. Recalls Fresh Guacamole Because of Possible Health Risk

Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Metro Produce Distributors Inc. has voluntarily recalled all Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole products with a use-by date of August 2, 2024, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems; pregnant women risk miscarriage or stillbirth. Consumers should stop using the products immediately and not eat them.

The recall covers the following products and lot code(s): Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Guacamole (14 ounce), Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Smokin’ Guacamole (10 ounce), Lunds & Byerlys Fresh Spicy Guacamole (10 ounce), Lunds & Byerlys Pico de Gallo/Guacamole Tray (18 ounce) and Lunds & Byerlys Deli Guacamole (56 ounce), all bearing a use-by date of August 2, 2024 (lot code(s) printed on package). The items have been sold since July 27, 2024 online and at Lunds & Byerlys grocery stores throughout the Twin Cities area and St. Cloud, and were available at select Taco Mas food bar locations from July 27–31, 2024.

Consumers who purchased these products are urged to dispose of them or return them to any Lunds & Byerlys store for a full refund; you may also request a refund or replacement by contacting Metro Produce Distributors Inc. at 612-436-3825 or by email at [email protected]. No confirmed illnesses have been reported to date; the company has ceased production and distribution while it investigates, and this recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
