Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Southwind Foods, LLC of Carson, California, has issued a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of frozen shrimp because of possible contamination with the manmade radionuclide cesium‑137 (Cs‑137), which can increase cancer risk after long‑term, repeated exposure. Consumers who have the recalled product should not eat it and should stop using it immediately.
The affected items include bagged frozen shrimp sold under Southwind Foods’ brand; identified lot code(s): BMS‑FZ‑062425 and BMS‑FZ‑091625. The product has been sold online and at select U.S. retailers and distributors and have been sold since June 24, 2025, through September 16, 2025. The product was distributed to retailers, distributors and wholesalers in multiple states across the U.S.
Consumers should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, or contact the company to request a refund or replacement; for assistance, email [email protected]. The FDA is investigating reports of Cs‑137 contamination in shipping containers and frozen shrimp processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) of Indonesia; no illnesses have been reported to date.
