Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Southwind Foods, LLC of Carson, California, has recalled a limited quantity of frozen shrimp because of possible contamination with the radionuclide cesium‑137, which can increase long‑term cancer risk with repeated exposure. Consumers should not eat the product and should stop using it immediately; dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The recall covers bagged frozen shrimp produced by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) and distributed between July 17 and Aug. 8, 2025. Affected lot code(s): BMS-0725A, BMS-0730B, BMS-0805C (consumers should check packaging for these lot code(s)). The shrimp have been sold online and at select U.S. retailers, distributors, and wholesalers in Alabama, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Washington since July 17, 2025.
Consumers who purchased the recalled shrimp should dispose of the product or return it to the retailer for a refund, or contact Southwind Foods to request a refund or replacement. No illnesses have been reported to date.
