Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — American Spices LLC of Ozone Park, N.Y., has recalled Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon because lab testing found elevated levels of lead that pose a health risk; consumers should stop using the product immediately and not eat it. Short- and long-term lead exposure can cause neurological and developmental harm, especially in children, and chronic exposure in adults can affect kidneys, blood pressure and cognition. No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall covers SPICE CLASS brand Ground Cinnamon packaged in 7‑ounce and 11‑ounce PET jars with expiration date 12/2026; lot code(s): not specified. The product was distributed to retailers in the New York City area and has been sold since Dec. 1, 2023, through May 15, 2024. The product was not sold online.
Consumers should discontinue use, then dispose of or return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund; if returning is not possible, consumers may dispose of the product following local guidance.
