Recall Details
Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Gusto Group Inc. of Paterson, N.J., has recalled Klong Kone Shrimp Paste in 454 g (1 lb) and 910 g (2 lb) jars because the products have the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead, posing a health risk, particularly to children. Consumers who have these products should stop using them immediately and not eat them. The recall follows one report of four children who experienced diarrhea and elevated blood lead levels after consuming the product; the company has ceased distribution of the affected lots and is investigating the cause.
The recalled items are identified as Klong Kone Shrimp Paste (Klong Kone) lot code(s): DPA159 for 454 g (UPC 8853142000313) and DPA161 for 910 g (UPC 8853142000320). The product is packaged in a white plastic jar with a red cap, is dark-colored with a salty flavor, and is labeled “Packed and Distributed By: P. Prateepthong 2000, Product of Thailand.” These lots were distributed to select U.S. retailers—direct shipments to two stores in Iowa and New Jersey—and were sold between April 2023 and December 2023; if you purchased elsewhere or online, please check with the place of purchase for relevant lot information.
Consumers should dispose of or return the recalled product to the place of purchase for a full refund or request a replacement following retailer instructions. For questions or to request a refund directly from the company, contact Gusto Group Inc. at (862) 264-6774 or email [email protected]; representatives are available Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. If you or your child have symptoms or concerns about lead exposure, consult a healthcare provider and local health authorities for testing and guidance.
