Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — AKT Trading Inc. of Torrance, California, has recalled CHOSHIYA Menma Ajitsuke Prepared Bamboo Shoots because the product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life‑threatening botulism. Consumers are warned to stop using the product immediately and do not eat it, even if it looks or smells normal. People who develop symptoms such as general weakness, dizziness, double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, or breathing problems should seek immediate medical attention.
The recall affects CHOSHIYA Menma Ajitsuke Prepared Bamboo Shoots (8.8 oz plastic bag) with lot code(s) corresponding to the JANCODE (UPC) 4983673527332 and expiration date 1/29/2025. The product has been sold since Sept. 15, 2025, online and at select U.S. retailers, including Tokyo Central Costa Mesa store in Costa Mesa, California, where the issue was discovered when the item was found on sale under ambient (non‑refrigerated) conditions without a “Keep Refrigerated” label.
Consumers who purchased the affected product should discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund and may request a replacement where available.
