Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — AquaStar (USA) Corp. of Seattle has recalled approximately 18,000 two‑pound bags of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail‑Off Shrimp because the product may have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions that could have led to contamination with cesium‑137 (Cs‑137), a man‑made radioisotope linked with an elevated long‑term cancer risk from repeated low‑dose exposure. Consumers are advised not to eat the shrimp and should stop using it immediately.

The recall covers Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail‑Off Shrimp, net wt. 2 lbs., packaged in clear plastic bags with white labels and green top stripes, with UPC 011110626196 and lot code(s) 10662 5139 (Best Before 11/19/2027) and 10662 5140 (Best Before 11/20/2027). The product has been sold online and at select U.S. retailers — including Baker’s, Gerbes, Jay C, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay Less Supermarkets, and Pick ’n Save — in AL, AR, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MO, MS, NE, OH, SC, TN, VA, WI and WV and have been sold since July 24, 2025 through August 11, 2025.

Consumers who purchased the affected shrimp should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, or contact the company to request a refund or replacement; for additional instructions or questions contact AquaStar at 1‑800‑331‑3440, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. PST, or by email at [email protected].
