Recall Details
Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 14, 2026 — Abbott Nutrition is voluntarily recalling specific lots of powdered infant formulas, including Similac, Alimentum and EleCare, manufactured at its Sturgis, Mich., facility after consumer reports and internal testing raised concerns about possible contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport. The company says no distributed finished product has tested positive, but parents and caregivers should stop using the affected powdered formulas immediately and check product lot codes to determine whether their container is included in the recall; do not feed recalled formula to infants.
The recall applies to powder formula containers with lot code(s) beginning with the first two digits 22 through 37 and containing the characters K8, SH, or Z2, with expiration dates of April 1, 2022, or later. These products have been sold online and at select U.S. retailers and have been sold since Sept. 15, 2025; metabolic deficiency nutrition formulas and products from other Abbott facilities are not included. Parents of infants using specialty or metabolic formulas should use the company’s “Check Lot Number” tool at similacrecall.com or call Abbott for lot-specific guidance before taking action.
Consumers with affected product are advised to follow the company’s instructions at similacrecall.com to return or request a refund or replacement; alternatively dispose of the product safely if instructed. For lot verification and assistance, call Abbott Nutrition at 1-800-881-0876 or +1-800-986-8540 (U.S.) or email [email protected] for customer support and claims; consult your child’s healthcare professional with any feeding or health concerns. If you are outside the U.S., check the company website for international distribution details and specific return procedures.
