4. Vitamins and Minerals

From the maintenance of mucous membranes to immune function, vitamins and minerals perform hundreds of roles in the human body. They are considered micronutrients because they are only needed in very small amounts. If you take supplements regularly, it is important to be aware that large doses of vitamins and minerals do not equate with health benefits. Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) accumulate in the human body and can pose health concerns when consumed in excess amounts.

On the other hand, water-soluble vitamins (B-complex and C) dissolve in urine and get out of your system without being absorbed when consumed in excess amounts. The take-away message here is to know the reference daily intake of vitamins and minerals. Otherwise, you are either doing yourself harm or paying for expensive pees!
