Better not to understate the pesticide residues in peanuts, as some farmers can really go heavy in herbicide and pesticide use in peanut production. USDA reports that 94 percent of planted acres of peanuts are covered in herbicides. Given the light shell of peanut butter, peanuts probably could not stop the chemicals from leaching in.
