1. From an Evolutionary Perspective
One way to gain insights into human behavior is through the lens of evolution. We worship celebrities for their power, popularity, and wealth. In ancient times, those who had a larger piece of wilderness, a higher status in their tribe, or gained more popularity among the crowd had a higher chance of survival. In other words, the desire for wealth and power was passed down through generations (or maybe encoded in human genes because science develops and who knows). Though the most disturbing issue of urban life in modern society is no longer about survival-or-death, such desires are still human nature.
